Overview

Excursion starts with a visit to the Old Town – «Icheri Sheher».

Old town – is a heart of Baku.

Here, on the hill, near the sea ancient city was born.

Several dozens of Historically architectural monuments are located in the territory of Old Town including Palace of the  Shirvanshahs, the Maiden Tower, several caravan-sarays, mosques, baths, etc.

You will have a chance to visit Upland Park.

Upland Park is the best place to enjoy an unforgettable panoramic view of the city and the bay of Baku.

The excursion program covers the entire central part of the city with a display of the most interesting historical and architectural sites.

The tour will also involve the Governor’s Garden, Government House of Azerbaijan (former House of Soviets) Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Hall named after M. Magomaev, Baku City Hall, the building of the new Carpet Museum and of course walk along the embankment.

Then the tour continuous with the excursion to the temple of fire worshipers – Ateshgah. Atashgah is located 30 kilometers far from the center of Baku, on the south – eastern outskirts of Absheron peninsula.

Long time ago, these lands, where natural gas bursts outward with burning torches, have always attracted fire worshipers from all over the world. Baku, with its oil, the “burning earth” known far beyond its borders.  Moreover, it is not surprising that the religion in the states that arose in the 7th century BC, such as Manna and Media, was Zoroastrianism which spontaneous combustion of oil and gas was its spread.  Therefore, in this territory, until today, the temple of eternal fire Ateshgah is preserved.

The final point of the tour covers Mehemmedi settlement.

Near to this small settlement a hill called Yanardag is located (azeri. yanar – burning, dag – hill). Moreover, in the real meaning of his name the hill burns indeed.

Nowadays in Absheron peninsula Yanardag is the only place where a unique natural phenomenon – natural gas comes out.

Return to Baku.

 

Itinerary: Departure to the Old Town \ drive to the Upland Park \ Sightseeing tour through to central side of the city excursion to the temple of eternal fire and fire worshippers – Ateshgah \ trip to the fiery hill – Yanardag \ return back.
